Cheers to Root 23

You know on Mad Men how you walk into Don Draper’s office and his bar cart is magically just made up and same for his office? He comes home and Betty has made him a perfect drink. What a dream right? Well that is so not Josh and my reality. We both love bourbon and tequila but find ourselves reaching for wine because don’t have the time to make the perfect old fashioned or refreshing tequila drink…insert Root 23 to the rescue. Now, don’t get us wrong, we can do a couple fingers of a really good bourbon, but mostly we are in the mood for a creative drink and that’s why Root 23 is perfect! They have pre-made simple syrups to mix with your liquor or you could even make a mocktail!

Root 23 was kind enough to send us some unique flavors to try and showed us the different sizes available. I am obsessed with the travel size! Perfect for cocktails on the go- Steps up the red solo cup. 🙂 Ha!

The two flavors we tried out were Pear Rosemary and Vanilla Ginger. <3 Next on our list we can’t wait to try is the Maple Cinnamon (OH MY YES, give us a cozy book by a fire with this) and the Blueberry Mint (mint julep party!) Also, we were out of our local spirits, but OYO Vanilla Bean Vodka would have been delicious or their bourbon. Win win either way.

Vanilla Ginger

  • 2 oz of bourbon

  • 1 oz vanilla ginger simple syrup

  • Brown sugar

We made this one pretty simple no pun inteded…but really it’s because the flavor profile of the bourbon and the simple syrup together are magic on their own! I think a good option would be to add ginger ale or ginger beer to play up the ginger flavor profile OR add some cider and sprinkle cinnamon.

Dip the rim on your drink in the simple syrup (or bourbon ha) then dip in a bowl of brown sugar, then mix your cocktail!

Pear Rosemary

  • 2 oz Tequila

  • 4 oz Teavana Passion Tea (unexpected surprise, huh?)

  • 2 oz Prosecco (or Perrier)

    • 2oz or more depending on how much bubbly you want

Josh lovessss this Teavana Passion Tea and we happened to have it around and while we were trying to decide on what flavor profile to play up, we were drawn to the hibiscus notes of the Passion tea. This was a total experiment but was a total win!

We are for sure not drink experts. But this was a lot fun, but we would love to experiment with more and maybe even take a cocktail class! Do you know of any? Maybe we will throw a party and we can all learn together. And we for sure can’t wait to try the other Root 23 simple syrups!

Let us know if you try them out and what you think? What’s your favorite? What’s on your list to try? Any flavor you would want us to experiment with? We are all ears! 🙂
